Adventure Racing Navigation Training

27/28 Feb 2021
Southern Drakensberg

Because there is no point going fast in the wrong direction!

Using maps and checkpoints from the now infamous Legs 4 & 5 of the Vasbyt 36hr, accompany the course designer, Graham Tweet Bird out on the actual routes and learn the art and skills of successful race navigation during a proper, active training weekend.

6 hours trekking/run in the spectacular Marwaqa mountains above Bulwer on Saturday and 6 hours MTB above the Umzimkhulu gorge and through the plantations on Sunday with constant input and attention paid to where you are, and where you should be going, and why, to find all the marked checkpoints.

Master the skills of reading through the layers of the map. Find the subtleties. Understand how the terrain will affect your movement. Develop a strategy. Go for it. Stay flexible.

Invaluable training for all Adventurers, regardless of your experience or position in a team. The pace will be such that we can discuss on the way, stop and evaluate, and always be aware of the beauty of the places we find ourselves in, but we will be moving with intent. You will be tired at the end of day, but not broken.

Our base once again is the well known Khotso Lodge.
Accommodation options are varied to suit all budgets with a 20% discount throughout February so you can book directly with them, and families are welcome, with plenty to keep them busy while you are out meandering.
